In February, unpaid carers from across South West Victoria came together for a vibrant and engaging CareFoot Bowls event at the Warrnambool City Bowls Club facilitated through Carer Connect. Designed to bring carers together, the event created a welcoming space for connection, shared experiences and a well-deserved opportunity to relax and have fun.
The CareFoot Bowls event allowed for the opportunity for carers enhance support networks which are so essential for unpaid carers. The chatter, laughter and exchange of information echoed across the bowling green. The day was a fantastic demonstration of the importance of strengthening these relationships that provide emotional support, practical assistance, and access to resources that help reduce isolation and sustain their wellbeing in demanding caregiving roles.

Understanding the considerable demands on unpaid carers, the CareFoot Bowls event was designed to allow for not just respite, but a chance to have a bit of fun, relax with other carers and even maybe learn a new skill. Carers even had a surprise visit from the Care bear offering free hugs.

The day proved to be a strong success, with excellent attendance highlighting the need for opportunities where carers can connect beyond their everyday responsibilities. Participants reported high levels of satisfaction, reflecting the positive atmosphere and meaningful interactions that took place throughout the event.
