Self-regulation Exercises for Carers

Caring for someone else often means putting your own needs to one side. Over time, that can take a toll — on your energy, your wellbeing, and your ability to keep going in the ways you want to. This short video has been created with you in mind.

Self-regulation Exercises for Carers

Caring for someone else often means putting your own needs to one side. Over time, that can take a toll — on your energy, your wellbeing, and your ability to keep going in the ways you want to.

This short video has been created with you in mind.

Carer Connect has partnered with Tess Howells of Thrive! Positive Psychology and Wellbeing to explore simple, meaningful ways you can look after yourself within the reality of everyday caring. Rather than adding pressure or unrealistic expectations, the focus is on small, practical approaches to self-care — the kind that can fit into your day as it already is.

In the video, you’ll find gentle guidance on ways to pause, reset, and reconnect with yourself, helping you to manage stress and reduce the risk of burnout. It’s not about doing more — it’s about finding what supports you, even in brief moments.

Whether you have five minutes or a little longer, this is an invitation to take a step back and give yourself the same care and attention you offer to others every day.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Tess Howells for her invaluable contribution to make this resource possible, and her passion for helping carers. Grateful thanks also to Colleen Hughson of First Ladies Productions for her expert videography on the day of filming. This is the first in what we hope will become a series of supportive resources for carers across the South West and beyond — shaped around real experiences, and designed to be genuinely useful in day-to-day life.

You deserve support too.
