You Are Seen: Could Your Story Help Another Carer Feel Seen?

Many people provide care and support to a family member, friend, partner, neighbour or loved one every day without ever thinking of themselves as a carer. For some, it’s simply what they do for someone they love.

The reality is that thousands of people in our communities are carers, often balancing work, family responsibilities and their own wellbeing while supporting someone else. Yet many remain hidden carers, unaware that support, information and services are available to help them.

A new initiative aims to change that.

You Are Seen.

The You Are Seen campaign aims to shine a light on the experiences of carers across our region and encourage people to recognise the valuable role they play. We know that hearing from someone with a similar experience can be incredibly powerful.

We’re Looking for Local Stories

You Are Seen are inviting carers from across our region to share their story. They’re interested in everyday experiences and honest reflections.

Participants will be asked two simple questions:

• When and how did you first realise you are a carer?
• What difference has having support made to you?

These stories will help build awareness and understanding of the caring role while showing other carers that they are not alone.

What Does Taking Part Involve?

Participation is designed to be relaxed and informal. Organisers will meet with participants to record their responses and take a small number of natural photographs. Stories may then be shared through short videos, quotes and images as part of the You Are Seen campaign.

Your Story Could Make a Difference

Many carers don’t seek support because they don’t realise they are carers. Others may feel isolated or believe they are facing challenges alone. By sharing your experience, you could help another person recognise their own caring role, connect with support services and feel seen.

Sometimes the most powerful stories are the simplest ones.
